1. About Ostrando

Ostrando is an Android mobile application that helps users understand German official letters (Behördenbriefe) through AI-assisted plain-language explanations, automatic deadline extraction, and response template generation. Ostrando is provided by Ostrando ("we", "us", "our").

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Ostrando app and website at ostrando.com. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

2. Not legal advice — Rechtsdienstleistungsgesetz compliance

Specifically:

• Plain-language explanations describe what a letter typically means, based on pattern recognition and AI analysis. They are not a legal interpretation of your specific situation.
• Deadline extractions are automated estimates. You must independently verify every deadline against your original letter before taking action. Ostrando is not liable if an extracted deadline is incorrect.
• Response drafts (Widerspruch, Einspruch, Fristverlängerung) are generic templates, not documents drafted by a qualified lawyer for your specific circumstances.

For complex legal matters, disputed administrative decisions, or situations involving significant financial or legal consequences, consult a qualified Rechtsanwalt (lawyer) or a recognised advice centre (Beratungsstelle).

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Ostrando. By using the app, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are using the app on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

4. Free tier and Ostrando Plus subscription

Free tier

The free tier of Ostrando is available without registration or payment and includes:

• 2 letter scans per calendar month
• Full plain-language explanations and action checklists
• Automatic deadline extraction with source-sentence citation
• 1 deadline reminder per confirmed deadline
• Permanent access to your local letter vault

The free tier is available indefinitely — we will not remove it without providing at least 90 days' notice.

Ostrando Plus subscription

Ostrando Plus is a paid subscription providing additional features including unlimited scans, escalating reminders, response drafting, PDF export, and a deadline calendar view. Plus is purchased via the Google Play Store and governed by Google Play's billing terms.

• Pricing: €5.99/month or €39.99/year. Prices are shown in the app and on the Google Play Store listing before purchase.
• Billing: Your subscription is billed by Google Play at the start of each billing period.
• Cancellation: You may cancel your Plus subscription at any time via Google Play. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You retain Plus features until the period ends.
• Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Google Play under their refund policy. Contact Google Play support for refund requests within the applicable window.
• Data after cancellation: After cancelling Plus, you permanently retain access to your free tier features and all data already stored in your local letter vault. We do not delete vault data upon cancellation.
• Price changes: We will provide at least 30 days' notice of any price change via an in-app notification.

5. Acceptable use

You agree to use Ostrando only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:

• Use the app to scan documents you do not have the right to access.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access or interact with the app or our APIs.
• Circumvent scan limits or subscription restrictions through technical means.
• Transmit malicious code, interfere with servers, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit Ostrando's output without our written permission.
• Use the app in a way that violates applicable law, including data protection law regarding letters of third parties.

6. Intellectual property

Ostrando and all associated software, design, trademarks, and content are owned by Ostrando or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights in Ostrando's intellectual property beyond the limited licence to use the app as described herein.

AI-generated outputs (plain-language explanations, response drafts) are provided for your personal use. You may use, edit, and submit the response drafts generated for your own administrative matters. We make no claim to ownership of the drafted letter text once generated for you.

7. Third-party services

Ostrando integrates with the following third-party services:

• Google ML Kit — on-device OCR (no data transmitted to Google for this purpose)
• Google Play Billing — subscription management and payment processing
• AI analysis API — anonymised text analysis (see Privacy Policy for details)

Your use of Google services is subject to Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the availability or behaviour of third-party services.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Ostrando is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:

• The app will be available at all times or free of errors.
• Extracted deadlines, explanations, or response drafts are accurate, complete, or legally sufficient for your situation.
• Use of the app will produce a specific legal or administrative outcome.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Ostrando's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid for Ostrando Plus in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €50, whichever is greater. This limitation does not apply to liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

In particular, we accept no liability for missed administrative deadlines resulting from incorrect deadline extraction. Always verify any deadline extracted by Ostrando against your original letter.

9. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to conflict of law provisions. For consumers within the EU, mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence continue to apply.

The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution (ODR) platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not obliged to participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings but are willing to consider them.

For disputes that cannot be resolved informally, the courts of Germany have jurisdiction, subject to mandatory jurisdictional rules applicable to consumers.

10. Termination

You may stop using Ostrando at any time by uninstalling the app. Uninstalling the app deletes your local letter vault from your device.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to Ostrando (including API access) in cases of abuse, violation of these Terms, or fraudulent activity. In such cases, any active Plus subscription will be cancelled and a pro-rata refund may be issued at our discretion.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notification at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
